- OUR STORY -
Our story begins in 2015 when Gareth our founder, opened Deadstock, the first Vintage Streetwear website. Frustrated by the lack of streetwear stores at the time and with no idea how to get stock, Gareth came up with the idea of sourcing his product from charity shops - and pretty quickly word started to spread.
Despite starting with zero money and operating from his bedroom in a 12 bedroom bed-sit in Cardiff, Deadstock grew to be an internationally recognised pioneer in the Vintage Streetwear world and helped make second-hand clothing not just accepted, but cool for a new generation.
- THE THRIFT (CARDIFF'S VINTAGE SUPERSTORE) -
Inspired by Bali’s night markets and with a want to explore the world outside of Vintage Streetwear, Gareth envisioned a retail experience built around exploration and the experience - a philosophy that still shapes The Thrift today.
After testing the waters with an event that attracted close to a thousand attendees - The Thrift was founded in Cardiff as the biggest vintage store in the UK and was visited by tens of thousands of people over it's lifetime.
- THE THRIFT (The little one) -
After losing our original warehouse last minute and having to move much of the warehouse by hand in plastic tubs with wheels, we found ourselves starting over from a much smaller space. It wasn’t the plan, but it became an opportunity to rethink everything about the kind of shopping experience we wanted to create.
- THE THRIFT (but its a secret vintage store) -
Six months in we spotted an old abandoned garage in Cardiff's student-ville, and despite zero money nor much of a plan, jumped at the opportunity to get things back on track and be surrounded by the energy and youth that fuels our vision.
Built entirely with the support of our customers and with a cult following of people brave enough to explore and try something different - we're ready to redefine and re-introduce the world of second hand clothing for a new generation all over again.
